Headwaters to Ocean Expedition

This trip is for students who are fifth-going-into-sixth graders the year of the expedition. Campers research and experience the path of a drop of water as it travels from the crest of the Coastal Range watershed to the Pacific Ocean. Topics highlighted will be marine biology, estuary ecology, river dynamics, earth systems, forest ecology, and related art projects. Participants will travel to Newport, Oregon, to experience multiple aspects of hydrology. Participants will hike forest trails, complete labs at the Hatfield Marine Science Center, find fossils, and have fun. For recreation time participants will have access to an ocean front recreation room, visit the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum, and build three dimensional polylithic sediment structures (a.k.a. sandcastles). This unique adventure will be an opportunity to experience quality integrated science education and have fun doing it.

Cost
: $650.  This includes lodging, meals, transportation, and programming. 

Payment:

A deposit of $300 is due by March 23, 2026. Final payment of $350 is due by May 25, 2026.

Cancellation policy: Full refund prior to May 1, 2026. After that date there may be administrative costs deducted from the refund.
